In-Home Occupational Therapy in Nashville & Hendersonville, TN

Real skills. Real settings. Real results.

For many children, the biggest challenge isn't learning a new skill in a therapy room — it's using that skill at home, at school, and out in the world. That's why in-home occupational therapy can be so powerful.

When therapy happens in the environment where your child actually lives and grows, the skills they build transfer faster, stick longer, and make a bigger difference in everyday life.

At the Center for Connection and Wellness, our pediatric occupational therapist comes to you — serving families across Nashville, Hendersonville, and surrounding communities in Middle Tennessee.

What is in-home occupational therapy?

In-home occupational therapy brings all the benefits of pediatric OT directly into your home. Instead of practicing skills in a clinical setting and hoping they transfer, your child's therapist works with them in the actual spaces where those skills matter most — the kitchen, the bedroom, the bathroom, the backyard.

This approach is particularly effective for children with:

  • Sensory processing difficulties — your therapist can see firsthand what sensory triggers exist in your home environment and help create strategies that work in that specific space

  • ADHD and executive functioning challenges — building organization and focus skills where homework actually happens

  • Autism spectrum disorder — reducing anxiety by working in familiar, comfortable surroundings

  • Developmental delays — practicing daily living skills like dressing, eating, and self-care in the exact context where they occur

  • Anxiety around new environments — some children struggle to engage in clinical settings; home-based therapy removes that barrier entirely

Benefits of in-home OT over clinic-based therapy

More natural learning environment Children learn best in familiar surroundings. Working at home means less time adjusting to a new space and more time actually doing the therapeutic work.

Real-world problem solving Your therapist can observe exactly what's happening in your home — how your child navigates their morning routine, where sensory challenges arise, what's working and what isn't — and tailor strategies accordingly.

Parent and caregiver involvement When therapy happens at home, parents and caregivers are naturally more involved. You'll learn strategies in real time that you can use throughout the day — not just during scheduled sessions.

No commute stress For families with busy schedules or children who struggle with transitions, eliminating the drive to a clinic removes a significant barrier to consistent care.

Faster generalization of skills Research shows that skills practiced in the environment where they'll be used are more likely to become lasting habits. In-home therapy accelerates this process.

What does in-home OT look like?

Every session is tailored to your child's individual needs and goals. Depending on what your child is working on, sessions might include:

  • Building morning and evening routine independence

  • Practicing self-care skills like dressing, brushing teeth, and managing belongings

  • Sensory diet activities using items already in your home

  • Fine motor skill building through play and everyday tasks

  • Executive functioning strategies for homework and organization

  • Creating a sensory-friendly home environment

  • Parent coaching and strategy training
